THE IMAGE OF CHRIST
No visual image of Jesus Christ has been given to us through the Bible, except the prophesies of wounds and beatings, that we can only imagine.
PSALM 22, ISAIAH 50, ISAIAH 53, THE GOSPELS
We do however, have an interesting piece of history handed down to us through the years from where we get the image of Jesus we have today.
According to some historians, a handkerchief had been circulating among the churches which would heal the sick that looked upon it or touched it.
Later in history, a larger burial cloth with a negative image somehow "burned" ( the image was not painted ) on it, surfaced with an image of a man who had been brutally beaten and crucified.
The overwhelming similarities of Jesus' death and the man on the cloth are: HIS EYES WERE COVERED WITH COINS OF CAESAR'S IMAGE OF THE FIRST CENTURY PERIOD. THIS MAN WAS NAILED TO THE CROSS IN THE HANDS AND FEET. A SPEAR WOUND WAS IN HIS SIDE, SCOURGE MARKS WERE ON BOTH FRONT AND BACK OF HIS BODY, WOUND MARKS ON HIS HEAD FROM A CROWN OF THORNS, PARTS OF HIS BEARD WERE PULLED OUT AND BRUISE MARKS WERE ON HIS FACE AND ALSO ON HIS KNEE FROM WHEN HE FELL CARRYING THE CROSS. HE DIED FROM ASPHYXIATION DUE TO CRUCIFIXION AND HIS LEGS WERE NOT BROKEN. THERE HAVE BEEN EXTENSIVE TESTS DONE ON THIS CLOTH WHICH GIVE US MANY MORE SIMILARITIES. WE KNOW THIS ANCIENT BURIAL CLOTH TODAY AS . . . .
THE SHROUD OF TURIN
Artists throughout the ages have based their interpretation of Jesus' appearance on this burial shroud. This is where we get the pictures today of what we think he looks like.
It hasn't been proven, without a doubt, that the person on the cloth is Jesus Christ. ( due to carbon dating ) They have concluded though, that this was a real man who had been buried in a fashion of 1st century Jewish customs and that he died in the same manner as the gospels declare of Jesus Christ. No one has yet been able to reproduce an image even close to it, even with today's scientific abilities.

I guess if God were to let this become truly known as the burial cloth of Jesus, where would the BLESSING be for those who believe without seeing?
